About 22,000 words. The judges preferred ProseEngine’s chapter 15 times out of 18. Confirmed story-bible breaks: none on either side. Chapter 8 is left out on both sides: the AI provider declined to write it for ProseEngine on this run, and the app left it empty and said so.
Same model, same story bible, same length — the difference is what ProseEngine does around the model. How we counted: the judges quote every line they believe breaks the bible, and they are generous with it, so we read each flagged line in its chapter and kept only clear breaks. The same rule applied to both sides; borderline lines (7 for ProseEngine, 12 for the chat) are not counted. Book 2’s bible asked for present tense and for “said”/“asked” only; the chat wrote “said” and ProseEngine “says”, so neither was counted. It is a small test (three novels, AI judges, run in September 2026), so read it as evidence, not a guarantee. The chat was given its best case: one unbroken conversation with its whole history, nothing summarised away.
For book 3, a science-fiction mystery of about 22,000 words, we took the manuscript the Claude chat wrote and ran ProseEngine’s Improve Book on it, with Claude Opus 5.5.
